SELF RELIANCE gets wet

On Wednesday the 23rd of Feb., SELF RELIANCE went in the water for the first time in over two years. The new systems tested were: 12 volt battery banks, charger, combiner, 120 volt systems, fuel lines/tanks and the new engine and accessories.

The next day we went for sea trial - well, Intracoastal trial. At 1,400 rpm, the paddle wheel speed meter registered 8.5 miles per hour. The engine is a Perkins 4-236 / 85hp..

I wish I'd cleared the junk off the deck before I took this shot. And yes, she is squatting. Adding 800 lbs. of water in the forward water tank, along with anchors, anchor chain, windlass battery, AC compressor and the mast should bring the bow back down.
